The 4 main computer systems
PC's (personal computers)
A PC is a general purpose tool built around a microprocessor. It has lots of different parts : memory, a hard disk, a modem, etc. That work together to make the compter run and enable many purposes. "General purpose" means that you can do many different things with a PC. You can use it to type documents, send e-mail, browse the Web and play games. different type of pc's ramge from the imac from apple all the way though from IBMs and down to the small palm pc's to even some of the newer mobile phones which now even are coming standard with internet capabilities.
Mid range computers (file servers)
midrange computers allows one computer to send information to and receive information from another. We may not always be aware of the numerous times we access information on computer networks. Certainly the internet is the most conspicuous example of computer networking, linking millions of computers around the world, but smaller networks play a roll in information access on a daily basis. Many public libraries have replaced their card catalogs with computer terminals that allow patrons to search for books far more quickly and easily...
