Richard Manning is the author of "The Oil We Eat", an article which seems to briefly summarize the evolution of agriculture and what it has done to the human existence. While reading this article i was often surprised by what he wrote. I was not aware the earth has suffered so much because of humans "need" for agriculture. I found his thoughts and ideas very interesting, i wonder how much of what he wrote is true.
He begins this article in a discussion of energy. He explains how the earth only has so much energy, there is no way to create more or canceledit, what we have is what we have. He tells the reader how most of the energy we us is from a natural source, and we can thank the fields and the sun for it. He then tells the reader how the system of agriculture we have in this country was created not for food, but for money. He explains how the hunter-gathers were killed off by the farmers, then they became the soul providers of economical support, food.
Corn, rice and wheat are the worlds main source of food...
