Louis 16th came into power in 1774, he recognized the need for economic reform, but didn’t take any action towards it. He was not a very determined or able ruler. He is described as spending most of his time hunting or tinkering with puzzles, rather than coping with economic problems. Louis’ first finance minister, Turgot eased the financial crisis a little bit by controlling government spending and reducing expenses at Versailles. He also lowered food taxes and tried to limit the power of guilds. Turgot suggested to the king to tax the nobles. This was immediately dismissed and the King dismissed him, as Turgot was leaving he warned the King of Charles 1st who was killed due to his weakness.
