Money, Money, Money, MoneyMONEY!!!
In "Trap of Gold" by Louis L'Amour, and in "Treasure of Sierra Madre" by B. Traven money is and issue, in both cases gold. In each story a character becomes obsessed with the gold and wants more.
In "Treasure of Sierra Madre" the character Dobbs becomes obsessed with the gold and keeps on wanting more just like Wetherton. Wetherton is in a situation where if he keeps digging for gold he might be crushed by a big rock, but he keeps digging until the last minute that he can. Wetherton eventually overcomes his obsession but Dobbs never does, he even goes as far as to kill on of his partners to get all of the gold to himself. Wetherton doesn't have anyone to be paranoid about stealing his gold or killing him for it, but in "Treasure of Sierra Madre" the characters do. In "Treasure of Sierra Madre" Dobbs gets so paranoid that he almost shoots Curtin for trying to get a Gila monster from under a rock where his treasure was...
