Recently a new driving laws for teens were passed taking effect January 1, 1998. The old law was in order to get your drivers permit you must be 15 1/2 years for age and have completed drivers education. Then to get you license one must be at least 16 year of age with the completion of 2 hours behind the wheel training with a licensed driving instuctor. The new law states that teens can still get their permit at 15 1/2 and license at 16 however there have been some changes. The behind the wheel training hours war increased from 2 to 6 also including 50 hours with parent supervision. Also added was during 6 months of license issuance may not transport passengers under hte age of 20 and during 12 months may not drive between the hours of 12:00am and 5:00am.
Opposers of the new laws fear that the new laws aren't going to work. Many think it's counter productive, meaning teenage always do the opposite of what they're told to. Opposers also think that the new laws will only hurt the parents of teenage drivers, beings as most teenage tickets are paid by the parents.
Supporters, like myself, feel that if teen are going to break the laws by having other teen in the car with them or driving after the 12:00 curfew is not responsible enough to be driving in the first place...
