Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United States, was born on February 12, 1809, in a log cabin near Hodgenville, Kentucky. His parents were Thomas and Nancy Lincoln. At age eight, Abraham Lincoln and his family moved by wagon across the Ohio River into Indiana. He helped his father build a log cabin which was ready to live in during the winter of 1817.
In 1818 Nancy Lincoln, Abraham's mother, died. At this time, he was only nine years old. It was very lonely in the cabin until Thomas Lincoln married again in 1819. Abraham grew to love his stepmother, Sarah Johnston Lincoln.
Lincoln grew to be a tall and strong teenager. In 1828, at 19, he helped take a flatboat down the Ohio River to New Orleans...
