Psychological models of depression suggest that negative thinking is both a cause and effect of depression.
People with depression have negative and unreasonable thoughts about themselves ("I am worthless" , "I cant do anything right"), their experiences ("nothing ever goes well for me" , "I didnt get the job because I am stupid"), and their future ("it will never get better", "life will always be a struggle"). ... Depression follows these thoughts, or is made worse by them, because thinking negatively makes you feel down.
