The Power of Red
An archetype shows a tendency to be a concept that we unlearn. No one person teaches an individual how to experience a certain color, shape, form, or title. An archetype exists as a collection of experiences that one has had over a period of time. One example of an archetype would be the color red. An individual may experience the color red as a powerful color. For example blood, might come to mind when someone sees the color red. In the Scarlet Letter, a painting of the American flag by Childe Hassam, A Tale of Two Cities, and "The star-spangled Banner", the color red stands as a powerful color.
The character Hester Prinne in The Scarlet Letter is convicted of adultery, and her punishment is to wear a scarlet letter "A" on her bosom. The letter is neatly sewn onto a red velvet patch and is extremely beautiful. How could such a beautiful color be used to stand for adultery?..
