Les Paul- the inventor of the solid-body guitar and multi-track recorder- has made the sound possible for almost all popular music today (Space, 2). For Les Paul, "the Wizard of Waukesha," determination is everything. From the moment he held his first guitar, he began an extraordinary journey of creativity and ingenuity- never bowing to adversity. The 87-year-old father of the electric solid-body guitar and multi-track recording always set his sight on what he wanted to achieve. Whether it was breaking into the New York music industry or willing his way to playing guitar with Bing Crosby in Hollywood, Paul never let barriers stifle his passion for success (Space, 1; Smithsonian, 2). Not even a near-fatal car crash that injured his right arm so severely doctors believed he would never play the guitar he loved again (Contemporary, 7). Nor other health problems over the years, including painful arthritis, a stroke, and a heart attack. Paul said.
