Is fear a lack of faith…?
In our society one might say that fear is a lack of faith, and therefore without faith one may live a very unsettling and unfulfilled life. On the other hand, in Kierkegaard’s book, Fear and Trembling, he portrays a very different view of faith where fear, anxiety, and uncertainly follows a correlation between the two in which faith is not as easily attained as one may think. He implies one cannot have faith without passion and as one makes his way into the unknown, fear automatically comes along. ... Kierkegaard demonstrates the different stages of life that one must go through to reach Abraham’s level of faith which is something that is far beyond any human comprehension by showing that one must go beyond the aesthetic and the ethical and travel into the religious where one must take the leap of faith into the unknown. Kierkegaard believes that taking this leap is where true faith begins. ... At this stage the one has achieved the universal and can rest unlike the nights of faith. On the other hand, faith is moving into the religious level, where one is traveling into the absurd or paradox, and having a personal relationship with God.
