The Catcher In The Rye by J. D. Salinger is about a fascinating character by the name of Holden Caulfield. The reader sees New York, in1951, through Holden's eyes. Holden is a complex character with many issues. He is very depressed, he has been kicked out of numerous schools, and is coping with the death of his brother and conflicting issues dealing with a former friend of his by the name of Jane Gallagher. However, there is a constant theme or idealism that Holden holds onto throughout the novel. Holden thinks that children are innocent and he holds them in the highest regard. In Holden's mind, children are pure.
