Before GPS, which means Global Positioning System, trying to figure out your
exact position and where you are going was rather difficult. Navigation and
positioning are important to many events and or a long time the proccess has
been a rather difficult one. GPS was first used for the military and it took 12
billion dollars to get it up and running. This system has changed navigation
forever.
GPS can show your exact locationg anywhere at anytime during any weather, and
it is the only system that is capable of this. There are 24 GPS satellites and
they orbit 11,000 miles above the Earth's surface. There is 24 satellites, so
while orbiting at least one is in each time zone. Each satellite is continually
monitored from ground stations arounds the world. The first GPS satellite ever
launched was on 1978 and it was called GPS Block L. That launch was one of
history's most exciting and revolutionary developments, and new uses are being
discovered for it everyday...
