The Painter of Light, Thomas Kinkade
Thomas Kinkade is America's most collected living artist. He is known to many as "The Painter of Light." It became his nickname because of his unique gift of amplifying light through swirling auras of color. I first discovered Thomas Kinkade about 6 years ago, but the world knew Thomas before then.
Thomas Kinkade was born in Sacramento, California in 1958; however, he grew up in a small town called Placerville for most of his childhood years. From 1976 to 1978, Thom attended the University of California. After that he received his formal training at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.
He spent the summer after graduation on a sketching tour with college friend James Gumey. While on the tour, they produced a best-selling instructional book, The Artist's Guide to Sketching. The popularity of the book skyrocketed and landed the two new artists a job at Ralph Bakshi Studios...
