Lesson Plan: Basics of Gaelic Football:
Aim:
To introduce and develop pupils basic skills in Gaelic Football.
Objectives:
To introduce beginners to such skills as
Basic pick up
Basic hand pass
Basic kick pass
Soloing
Shooting points
Previous knowledge:
Very varied many of the pupils will be from the local U-12 County winning team; other pupils will never have participated in Gaelic activities before.

Eight balls, twenty-four cones, Gaelic football field,

Main body of Lesson:Divide class into eight groups of four Demonstrate Basic pick up with dominant foot(4 repetitions each) then pupils repeat activity with weaker foot.(4 repetitions) 7 minsPupils remain in same groups demonstrate basic hand Pass with dominant hand (4 repetitions) repeat drill with weaker foot(4 repetitions) 7mins Run to the ball, pick up, run around cone, place ball back down at starting cone, and leave for next person to go.Teaching PointsToe Underneath the ball Go round conePlace ball on groundPupils run to the ball, pick it up correctly, run around the cone and hand pass to next pupil Teaching pointsToe underneath ballKeep eye on the ball Visualize passAim for the chestGo nearer if your worried about accuracy

Remain in same group demonstrate soloing and drill with dominant foot(4 repetitions) repeat drill with weaker foot(4 repetitions) 7 mins First pupil run to the ball, picks up correctly runs around cone soloing reaches first cone and hand passes to next pupilTeaching points Toe underneath ball Toe tap the ball Go round the cone Go faster on 4th go
Pupils divide into groups of four with mixed ability two pupils have ball in hands and stand 20 metres from goal demonstrate score over bar with dominant foot(Four repetitions) repeat drill with weaker foot(4 repetitions) 10 mins Two pupils stand behind goals and kick out balls to two attackers who shoot from where they catch ball pupils alternate after eight kicksTeaching pointsVisualise scoreCatch ball first timeAim for black spotKick with lacesMove around kick from different angles.
