Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, and ends with a teardrop. Love can be decetful and is shown through this girls story about young love. Graham Sanderson said he loved Lulie. Unfortunatly the love was meant for her best friend Myrna. In Martha Brooks, " Paradise Cafe," a story of a typical teenage romance becomes a story of friendship and betrayal. Throughout the reading the author gives clues using foreshadowing to show how Lulie slowly realizes her boyfriend has been unloyal to her as well as her bestfriend.
At the very beginning of the story the author starts out with foreshadowing when the relationship of Lulie and Graham are described. Everything was perfect; almost to perfect. Lulie described it as, pg. 62:
" I thought our love would last forever or at least six months like Barb Chapell's and Robert Maslick's had, because right after that two ducks flew up from our marsh in the east field-a green head and his mate-and it was a suprisingly warm day with magic shimmering on the golden air...
