Blood letting, leaches, surgery with no anesthesia, tooth extraction, these were a few of the things; in medieval medicine. People also thought that medicine had to do with superstition. It was a lot harder to practice medicine and cure people than it is today. It also took a lot to learn all the skills in the medieval era then it is today to learn to become a doctor. Herbs used in the medieval medicine was found in about every medieval garden. Herbs were an important part to medieval medicine.
Most people thought that medicine workers barbers also known today as doctors had special powers to ward off evil spirits and influences. Before a medicine worker died they passed on all the secrets down to the next generation to know. Some of the thoughts of barbers were that they went straight to heaven when they died.
