World War One began in 1914 and lasted for another four years. Today, historians have an idea on what caused WWI but there may be several more. Many say that nationalism, militarism, and the allies formed between countries were all primary causes of the war. Therefore, Nationalism and Germany were the main causes of World War One.
Nationalism is the belief that nations will benefit from acting independently rather than with other nations (dictionary.com). In the ninetieth and twentieth centuries, nationalism was becoming a powerful force in Europe so people that had the same culture and language wanted their own country. Nationalism was strong in Europe but it was especially strong in France and Germany. Germany had economic and military strength while France contributed to Europe's leading powers.
