This article spoke about the increasing rate of adolescent suicide among those between the ages of 15 and 24. In the past 25 years, that number has tripled. It is the second or third most common cause of death in adolescents. The article described the major factors involved and the treatment available to anyone found with the common symptoms and/or factors related. Some of the common factors include: Depression, substance abuse, behavioral problems, weapon availability, previous attempts, a recent traumatic event, or anxiety. In cases of depression, the adolescent portrays signs of decreased appetite, mood swings, changes in activity level and sleeping patterns. With substance abuse, a rash action such as suicide can be taken because the teen is not in his or her right frame of mind. Substances such as alcohol and drugs are often used because they feel it may relieve their depression. However, when the use of depressants doesn't relieve their depression, an act of suicide may seem like their only alternative. Another factor is behavioral problems...
