RESPONSE TO TEXT HAMLET
Qu3. Describe the personality and purpose of one character from the play Hamlet.
The story of Hamlet is about the Prince of Denmark and his quest for revenge upon his uncle whom he believes has killed his father the King. To further add to Hamlet's lust for revenge, his mother has just married the man who supposedly killed his father, only a few weeks after his father's death. During the course of the play, Hamlet seemingly goes mad, and his craving for revenge grows stronger and stronger, until the final battle is played out at the end of the story. Ophelia is a young woman right in the midst of this, and she is madly in love with Hamlet. Throughout the play the reader witnesses the turmoil of her character as everything around her that she knows and loves falls apart.
Although not one of the most significant characters in the play 'Hamlet' by William Shakespeare, the character of Ophelia does serve an important purpose. She presents a contrasting temperament to that of the only other female character, the Queen, as well as being Hamlet's main love interest. Her actions often show up certain characteristics of other characters in the play...
