The Articles of Confederation were written to serve the 13 colonies in the hopes that they had a common goal. This was the first official constitution of the colonists; however, it was a failure. The Confederation was made up of a very weak government which caused it to fail. There were many reasons as to why the Articles of Confederation failed.
One of the reasons why the Articles of Confederation was a failure was because the government had no taxing power. Because of this the government eventually went broke. The confederation was allowed to ask the states for money, but because people had the freedom not to pay taxes, few did. Another reason was of tariff wars. States would charge other states a tariff or interest on imported goods that they had purchased from other states. Like if New York was selling potatoes, they would sell them to the people of New York for a lower price than the people of New Jersey...
