Schizophrenia
While sitting in a restaurant full of people, there was one particular person in this room who caught my eye. He was sitting by himself in one of the corner booths talking to himself. I was kind of confused at what was going on, the waitress saw I was watching him, and she explained he had schizophrenia. Seeing some of the symptoms for myself, I was kind of interested what schizophrenia really is. Schizophrenia is a disabling brain disease, which affects approximately one percent of the population during their lifetime (NIH 1). When someone has this disease, they can have many serious symptoms. These symptoms can include: hearing internal voices, believing others are reading their mind, controlling their mind, or plotting against them. Having this occur to them can make them fearful and withdrawn from the outside world. Some people may believe schizophrenia is really about having a "split personality," but in all reality there is much more to this serious disease.
There is always a reason something happens, but there is not a definite reason as to why schizophrenia occurs...
