When I read the story "When the World was Green" and saw the movie "I am
Sam", for the first time, I did not see any similar themes and I thought that those two were completely different stories; however, later I realized how similar those stories are. In the story "When the World was Green" and the movie " I am Sam", Robert Clark Yates and Jessie Nelson use imagery and pathetic fallacy to describe the character's childhood; while Robert Clark Yates describe the main character childhood as something wonderful and exiting in terms of experimenting new things and having fun, Jessie Nelson describes Lucy's childhood in the same way; however, for a short period of time because a 7 years old Lucy have to deal with reality sooner that any other kid, which make her grow up faster than any other kid.
In the beginning of the movie as well as in the beginning of the story we realize that the characters are different in terms of curiosity about life. In the story " When the World was Green", the main character has absolutely no curiosity about world or life " I did not wonder where I came from or why it was me seeing these things, nor did I wonder where this world came from"(Yates 1). However, in the movie "I am Sam", Lucy is a very curious child and she is interested in absolutely everything around her and everything that she exposed to. "Daddy, why does the snow flake?"(Nelson)."Daddy, what mustard made of?"(Nelson)."Daddy, why are men bold?..
