The Three Strangers, by Thomas Hardy, exemplifies the idea of misperception and not to have complete trust in people you barely even know. Because there are so many things that you do not know about these people, it can be perilous to confide in them, as it is in this story.
The theme of a story is when a particular idea continuously seems to turn up over and over again throughout a story. The theme is pretty much the main idea of a story. This story's theme is one that can teach us a lessonpeople are not always who they seem to be. In "The Three Strangers", a man knocks on the door of a party and asks permission to stay there for shelter because he has nowhere else to go. The owner lets the man stay. The man does not talk much and we do not get to know a great deal of him. After some time, a second stranger knocks on the door and requests that he also be let in the house for shelter.
