Interview with a vampire
Claudia embodies the wisdom, age and knowledge of all vampires in the form of an innocent four-year-old child. It is the ultimate torture she faces as she grows as both a vampire and character that makes her the most interesting of all to watch.
Trying to wake her mother from a never ending sleep, Claudia is left half alive when what we think is Luis's human moral kicking in and stopping the kill. Later we learn that it is Claudia's sheer will to live that saved her from death and bore her into a fate that perhaps is much worse.
Claudia is ever the four-year-old child, knowledge thirsty and power hungry. As she grows older and gains the wisdom of an old man a manipulating, calculating untrusting woman emerges.
Claudia was flirting with disaster, her equanimity overwhelming to me as she read her vampire books and asked Lestat questions. She remained undisturbed by his caustic out bursts, sometimes asking the same question over and over again in different ways carefully considering what little information he might let escape in spite of himself.
Her heart is strong both physically and mentally and we see her heart grow still as her character progresses throughout the novel. It was Claudia's heart that enticed Luis and frustrated him, as he could not kill her both attempts he makes...
