The Chrysalis
The book The Chrysalis has a large amount of hope. It contains some truth, for instance how David and the others hope to find a better place. However some people may disagree with that statement and say that the novel The Chrysalis is one of trial tribulation and despair.
In the novel The Chrysalis, the atmosphere changes a lot, from one of cheer, to a dark gloomy one. Most of the novel is very dark and disturbing. The society of Waknuk is very particular, they believe that what they do and believe is right, and that any other way is wrong. When one begins to read the novel, their society seems very much like the one that is today, but as one reads on one can realize that they have a very different set of believes. As one reads further into the novel, the atmosphere begins to change into one of fear. One sees the rules of David's community and what he is going through with Sophie, all the other children, and his own troubles and fear for his life. Several other incidents such as the killing of the Wenders cat because it had no tail, and the death of Aunt Harriet, increase this fear...
