George Eliot in his novel, Silas Marner, reveals the qualities of affection, conviction, and dependency through the leading character named Silas Marner. Such characteristics are visible in his personality and tend to remain constant throughout the course of the novel. He's a man with an immense potential to love tenderly and devotedly. May it be a person or an object he comes in contact with in his life, he learns to appreciate its' value and holds a firm belief that it was sent to him for a reason. Cherishing it becomes an essential element to his survival. Belief in the Supreme Being and trusting the unseen goodness enables him to obtain a reward in the form of his adopted daughter, Eppie. Therefore, his keen faith constructs him to be emotionally stronger and bolder. At each stage of his life, him being dependent on a source, which is outside of him, is illustrated. Work, religion, gold, and his daughter are all examples of such sources that he's dependent on. Thus, the present traits in his character serve as an important factor in the development of his personality and assist him to make assessments regarding his existence as well as for the people he loves, mainly his daughter...
