Media violence is a major issue in the world today. There is much controversy over the topic, especially between people. Carl Cannon and Todd Gitlin are two people with different points of view on the issue. Cannon expresses that it is his belief that the media is the cause for the violence among the youth, and Todd Gitlin believes the media violence is not the reason for killing. Cannon's arguments are superior to Gitlin's because of the legitimate arguments being made and the information to support them.
Todd Gitlin (1994) wrote an article about how he believes the media violence is not affecting the youth of the nation, and how there are other causes for youth violence. Gitlin conceded that television violence is unpleasant, and states that he is not defending television violence, but he believes it is not the reason for the killing among the youth today. Gitlin believes the lack of parental authority, desperation, rage, poverty, revenge, drug trade, and unemployment all do. Gitlin also believes there is too much blame being put on the media. Gitlin believes if a decent percent increase were to be given to those making scathingly little money, giving them enough to live off of, it "will save thousands of times more lives than the same decrease in media bang-bang" (p...
