Communication Process
Before expounding on communication process it is important to define what communication is. Communication is the exchange of information: the exchange of information between individuals, for example, by means of speaking, writing, or using a common system of signs or behavior. (Encarta, 2004) Effective communication is an essential component of organizational success whether it is at the interpersonal, intergroup, intragroup, organizational, or external levels. While I cannot venture to claim any validity behind this statement, I feel that over 90% of the cleared security work we perform is communication. These types of communication are either between officers with themselves, officers with management, or officers with patrons in an effort to coordinate an end-state. Because 'cleared' security is all we do, one must possess a certain level of communication elegance to correctly ascertain the various clearances a patron possess and the need for access.
Recently, I communicated a task that needed to be completed by a certain date. This communication was in the form of a written e-mail. After giving this individual the e-mail to read, I then questioned him about certain facts to ensure he understood what to do.
