By the end of the novel, April Morning by Howard Fast, many of the conflicts of the main character have been resolved. There are three main reasons why Adam Cooper does not end up happy. At first, he always wanted to become a man, only to wish he were a kid again when his goal is achieved. The conflicts with Moses Cooper continued almost up to the point of Moses's death. He also became unsure of his love for Ruth Simmons. The happiness of Adam Cooper is never obtained because of these conflicts.
One reason why Adam Cooper is unhappy is because he is becoming a man overnight. In the beginning of this novel Adam complains to his father and mother about going to the committee meetings because he feels he is a man. The first step in becoming a man takes place on April 19th when he signs the muster book for the militia. When the fighting starts on the common his fathers gets shot in the breast and dies instantly...
