The movie, "In the Time of the Butterflies," is about a woman named Minerva, who fights against Trujillo, the dictator of the Dominican Republic. The movie begins with Minerva, her three sisters, and her parents on their humble farm land. Minerva and her sisters want to go to school, but their father insists they stay at home, for he needs more hands to work the crops. After repeated negotiations with her father, the plan is hatched where one sister will sacrifice and stay behind, while the other sisters go to school. Their father grudgingly agrees and this provides the first glimpse into Minerva's determination and tenacity. When they arrived at school, Minerva notices a girl who is always crying off to the side. They make friends and Minerva learns that Trujillo had captured and killed her friend's father. This is Minerva's first introduction to the Dominican Republic dictatorship. Its leader, Trujillo, visits their school to see a production and before he leaves, Minerva notices that he picks a pretty girl to take with him. She never returns...
