1) Evolution is a religion. Evolutionists believe in evolution because they want to. It is their desire to explain the origin of everything without a Creator. Evolution is then atheistic and atheism, no less then theism, is a religion. However, it has been admitted by doctrinaire-atheistic evolutionist Richard Dawkins that atheism can not be proven true, as we can not prove there is no God. The definition applies to the phrase "icons of evolution" in that they believe in them even though there is controversy over the "scientific evidence" for evolution.
2) The problem with using these drawings to support Darwin's theory is that they were faked. Haeckel's embryos are not even the first stage of development but the mid stage. When it's the first stage in which they should look most alike. These drawings, however, are used in many textbook and rarely ever say anything about them being faked...
