Why do so many mobile phone users act like complete morons when travelling by air ?
Look around most airport terminals, particularly in Europe and North America, and one witnesses mobile phone abuse at its worst.
There's the guy who has just downloaded his favourite tune and has to let his phone ring for at least 60 seconds before answering. Coming along the boarding pier is the next moron - believing that he is either Mr Universe or Bill Gates in waiting, he has not learnt to speak properly - convinced that shouting into his mobile will impress those around him.
Lets not forget these fashion junkies that think it's cool to wear a hands-free earpiece and mike - it is difficult to quantify here just how stupid they look as they march around the boarding gate apparently addressing themselves to thin air.
Airline lounges are just as bad, and in recent years have moved from being havens of peace and quiet to the hysteria of the trading floor - I for one often find the public terminal areas now provide a better chance of a quiet corner in which to relax.
Why is it that the prospect of a 60 minute flight seems to demand that last call to the office "hi, I'm just off to Paris, and won't be able to talk for a little while!". Do those back in the office give a hoot where you are? Of course not, but if you are guilty of such tactics, let me be the first to congratulate you on being a prize moron!..
