Staying Positive Not Negative

Algebra, by far, is one of the more challenging forms of math ever established. In Algebra you get to deal with things such as factoring, the Pythagorean theorem, using Pi, and substituting variables in as numbers. There are some things about Algebra, however, I just don't understand the value of learning. The part about it that I can relate to everyday life is dealing with negative, as well as positive, numbers. You see, I am an extremely positive person and having to deal with negative numbers seems pointless from a mathematical, and personal stand point.
What is the deal about these negative numbers anyway? Mathematically, negative numbers are very pointless. If you are making a graph or chart do you ever see it going negatively? I don't think so. Never, in a true situation, would I ever need to know that -7 + -4= -11...
