By reading many different pieces of literature about the family unit, I realize that the definition of a "family" differs for each individual. Looking at my definition of a family, it is easy to see that it is greatly influenced by the family which I am apart of and accustomed to. My ideal family is constructed around the ideas of religion, emotional and financial support, and the love the family members have for each other. A family is a group of people, blood related or not, that genuinely love and care for one another. They support each other the best way they can, both emotionally and financially, and they nourish each others spirits and minds. My definition of a family has little to do with they types of people that the family consists of , instead it is concentrated more on how the members of the family interact with each other.
I believe emotional support is the most essential thing to have in a family. If the members of the family can support each other emotionally it shows that they can, at least for one minute, put someone else before themselfs. Supporting each other emotionally ensures that no member of the family will ever feel completely alone and it brings a bond of trust and respect that is almost impossible to break. If every child felt this bond within their family, less children would be resorting to gangs and drugs for comfort...
