If I told you I could take your dog and teach him to retrieve my shoe in less than a day, what would you think? You don't own a dog? Do you have a roommate with an annoying habit, a younger sister or brother that bothers you, or something that you'd like to change about your significant other or your children? Would you like to accomplish this without stress, fighting, and tempers raised? Operant conditioning is a term you should know. It deals with learning how to shape and reinforce behaviors that you like and ignore the negative ones until they disappear. Scientists, animal trainers, child psychologists, just to name a few, are people that use this technique. The great thing about operant conditioning is that the concepts are relatively easy to learn and anyone of any age can learn to do it, in a very short period of time.
