Mulholland Drive might infuriate you; don't say you haven't been warned. Many will want an explanation of the film after they've struggled all the way through; some will want to know what the heck is going on about 15 minutes into it. I'd argue that an explanation wouldn't make the overall experience better, and that a film which makes you ask questions like these is, in many respects, a successful one. Did I mention the dwarf yet? No, well, like any good David Lynch film, you have to expect a dwarf. Onward... Like most of David Lynch's work, Mulholland Drive has polarized its audience into two major camps, one that ravishes it with praise and one that, to put it very mildly, detests the movie. I find myself considerably more ambivalent. Mulholland isn't for everyone. If you enjoyed The Straight Story, you'll only find flashes of that film's more traditional linearity in this movie, which rapidly disappear as Lynch pulls the rug out from under you.
