According to Webster's Dictionary, great can be defined as "Superior in quality or character; noble". In the novel The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, we come across a man
worthy of this title, Jay Gatsby. In this Novel, set in the "Roaring Twenties", we learn of Jay Gatsby conflicts as he works to acheive his goals and dreams. Although Gatsby has many dreams,
he strives to reach all of them. With such passion and devotion for acheiving his dreams, one can only classify Gatsby as Great. Gatsby continues to depict this superior quality in himself
throught the entirety of the novel.
Firstly, Gatsby puts a prodigious amount of work towards his dreams and did whatever it took to acheive them. For example, when Gatsby decides he wants to become someone more
affluent, "He and this Wolfshiem bought up a lot of side-street drug stores here in Chicago and sold grain alcohol over the counter" (Fitzgerald 141). This quote proves Gatsby is so devoted to his
dreams that he will stop at nothing to accomplish them...
