There are an abundance of different transmission media that one can choose from, but each type of media has different levels of security that one should be aware of. The level of security that one needs may very. Although most can agree that security is an important issue for most networked users. The best place to start when analyzing the security of different medias is with the most secure.
The most secure transfer media one can have is a cable or hardwired network. An UTP (twisted wire), coaxial or fiber optic system can be locked down so that only users that have a computer hooked directly into the network can have access to network resources. Taking into account the other aspects that a system may contain like password protection, firewalls, encryption and even biometric procedures one can easily see how a hardwired system could be incredibly secure. Accordingly, even by using these preventative measures one's computer is not always safe.
