The minimum wage was set up in 1938 to offset the horrible working conditions that many workers where facing. The rate of the minimum wage has steadily increased with the rate of inflation. The minimum wage started at just 25 cents and hour and has no gown all the way to $ 5.15. The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) first enacted the minimum wage and it was enforced by the labor employments standards administration. The minimum wage topped out in 1968 when it was worth $6.92 in 1998 dollars. The minimum wage is constantly being pushed to be increased and it's usually supported by unions and anti poverty organizations, they say it will keep the nations working poor a better yearly salary. The common minimum wage worker only makes about $10,712 per year, that figure is well below the poverty line for a family of three.
