Lost in Translation Review
If I were to make of list of my top three favorite films that came out this past year, Lost in Translation would undoubtedly make the cut. Because that's precisely what this quiet sparkle of brilliance is: a film. True films are an art form completely separate from your everyday Hollywood, multi-million dollar affair. The major studio releases tend to forget about the little things that really make the movies come to life. Usually, character development and aesthetics are two things that are often sacrificed first. For many moviegoers, being able to connect with the main characters and believe that they could be real people are things that are seldom missed. As well, the last time I remember anyone talking about a particularly enthralling camera movement was for The Matrix's computer generated scenes. Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation, on the other hand, has done these things and so much more, with so much less.
If one were to see just the script for this movie, it would more than likely appear dull and drab, with no plot or direction. But anyone who has seen the movie knows a wonderfully different truth...
