America is considered a melting pot meaning a locality in which a blending of races, peoples, or cultures takes place as stated in Webster's Dictionary. But how are we able to distinguish one self from this melting pot? The answer is by race. The following essay will explain the meaning of race and whether or not it exists in our country. It will discuss the concept of race and the positive and negative aspects of race.
What is race? According to Webster's Dictionary, race is a classification of human beings based on physical characteristics, genetic markers, or by common descent. Race is used in our society to distinguish one group of people from another. Race does exist in the United States because it helps us know each other's heritage and where our descendants came from.
