Course Description: This course introduces the student to the how, when and why of using and interpreting statistical procedures. Statistical Tests include Chi Square, Z and T Scores, Mann Whitney U, Hypothesis Testing, Measures of Central Tendency. Prerequisites: Bus/SS 390 or instructor permission
Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Explain the differences between sampling techniques
Analyze and interpret research results incorporating appropriate statistical tests
Analyze how to choose the appropriate test given the data collected
Use and interpret t-test, z-scores and central tendency, Mann-Whitney U and Chi Square
Effectively communicate projects through print and oral presentations
Design and implement appropriate research project format while increasing critical thinking skills
Through initiative and leadership, assist others in the group
Text: Research Design & Methods, Fifth Edition, Bordens & Abbott, Mayfield, 2001.
Several worksheets and lecture notes are distributed to augment the text.
Research: During the semester, one project and presentation will be completed. This project will be accompanied by a well-written, typed and single-spaced, (block form) report and a 10 minute presentation. Working in a team of two is not required but acceptable.
Other assignments may be given throughout the course.

Attendance/ Participation 60%
