If you've ever been cut off by a knuckle-head driving erratically on the highway in an SUV trying to get nowhere fast, you are not alone. SUV's had a purpose long ago, carrying heavy utility items, helping people in bad weather, and reaching areas that are unavailable to regular vehicles. Today it seems SUV's serve only to needlessly consume precious resources, to inflate the egos of those driving them, and to prove that function is beginning to follow form in the way of the luxury SUV.
UV'S were a great benefit back in WWII where terrain was rough and inconsistent. G.I's in need of medical paraphernalia, supplies, or even providing ammunition and light armored support could rely on a vehicle called the Jeep. The Jeep epitomizes what a utility vehicle should stand for, ugly and tough, capable of performing over rough terrain taking a beating from all the elements. Today the Jeep has retired from the army service and has been replaced by a much more capable, agile, and all over superior vehicle, called the Hummer, which has caught the eye of the general public. With GM's release of the H2 a dolled-up generic version of the hummer, will only stand clutter cities and clot highways.
Though America is not as bad as other countries, when it comes to population density, we still manage to consume more resources than any other country...
