. In my opinion, what the writer trying to say in her article is that she thought that the American people are discriminating her and the other Asian American because of her ascent in English. Because of that, they loved to hang around by themselves and this includes the career planning as she mentioned that many Asian American choose engineering instead of English or other humanities major because they can do well in mathematics but not in English.
2. Mother tongue is a kind of using own ascent when people speak other language.
For example I am Singapore, and we have own ascent when we are talking in English.
I tried to talk in American ascent when I talk to American. Sometime I didnt notice that I use the mother tongue.
