Discussion
My game analysis previous to the training programme highlighted various weaknesses in my game. Firstly I found that the main problem was my overhead clear, this is clearly shown, as it is the main area of my investigation. I also had problems playing all types of backhand strokes, and I felt this was shown clearly in the analysis as I 'rarely' used the stroke in a game situation, (see appendix2). Through my own feeback I felt that given that I 'rarely' used the overhand clear and when I did the shot usually lacked power to get from side of the court to the other, (see appendix 2). Looking at my technique analysis based on the overhead clear it is clear that there are some areas of weakness, which cause me to play poor clears. The two areas that are in need of improvement are both at the action stage of the stroke. Firstly I have a tendency to keep my body very low instead of reaching out high to strike the shuttle, (see appendix 3). This may cause the shuttle to fly at a low height, which causes it to fall short of the tramlines, and also the power is a problem as well. Another weakness based on the technique analysis is again in the action phase, when paying the overhead clear I don't have a straight arm action, (see appendix3), this again may cause the shot to come short of the tramlines resulting in lack of power. From looking closely at both sets of analysis's there are certainly some areas of improvement...
