Guests of the Nation
In this exercise, which is about the Short story "Guests of the Nation", I will try to reply on following questions:
- How are the charecters of Belcher and Hawkins and how do they differ / resemble ?

- How does the story illustrate the conflict between patrioism and human solidarity ?
- What do I mean when political issues use the act of taking hostages as a "weapon" ?
During the war of independence the two Englishmen, Belcher and Hawkins, have been captured and are kept under supervion by Irish guards. The two men differ a lot from each other. Belcher is a big man. He is a very silent man, doesn't speak very much but is a extraordinary good card player. Hawkins is almost the opposite. A little man, speaks and discusses whenever the posibility is there and is just as bad, as Belcher is good, at playing cards...
