FEMINISM IN AMERICA
Feminism is an important part of our culture. It has, at some point, impacted all of you in some way. According to the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition, feminism is the movement based around the "belief in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes." The movement is still very much alive within American culture and is consistently altering society. Feminism is the theory behind which bills are getting passed in congress and traditional gender lines are being transcended. This is why it is important to have a basic knowledge of the history of the movement within American culture. Feminism encompasses what many refer to as 'the three waves of feminism.' Those waves include a first during the 1800's and early 1900's; a second during the mid-sixties; and a modern third that is currently unfolding.
