The Communist Party in Russia was very important to the nation's history. The Party's leaders controlled everyone, threatened many, and also executed several. In reading Darkness at Noon I feel I have been deeply moved by the Party spoken of in the novel. They imprisoned hundreds of people they felt were traitors. Many people died and suffered at the hands of the Communists. Rubashov, the main character and also a prisoner, is an example of the horrible consequences that the Party made its followers suffer.
The totalitarian state in Russia was very powerful. The Party, which controlled Russia for many years, cared nothing about the individual. The nation and its citizens were a whole. There was no freedom of press and no freedom of movement...
