Root Canals
Root Canals are the most feared dental procedure. The mention of their name makes even the bravest of patients want to run screaming. But, their bad name isn't deserved. With modern technology, Root Canals can be practically painless, so what's the big deal?
The first written record of treating the pulp of the teeth was in 1831 by a London dentist, James Snell. At that period in time the pain must have been unimaginable because of the lack of good anesthetics. Shearjashub Spooner suggested using arsenic trioxide to devitalize the pulp in 1836. Many other practitioners condemned the practice because it damaged the surrounding tissue, but it soon became widely used. With the new technology of the twentieth century, Root Canals became virtually painless.
