After reading the editorial Fat Ladies Need Not Apply, which was published by your newspaper on March 10, 2004, I feel that the author is right in complaining about the replacement of the fat opera singer Voigt. I agree that the musicality is more important than the body of a singer. But it seems that the author is logically wrong because he is implicating that fat ladies can sing better than slim ladies. In my opinion, both slim and overweight ladies should be treated equally in the field of music. In the world, most great opera singers are quite slim, but their bodies can also produce enjoyable and beautiful sounds. The author of the editorial thinks that the fatness of the singers is their superiority though he does not say this clearly. He says another singer who is "slimmer and lesser known" replaced Voigt. Why should "slimmer" and "lesser known" be put together? The author is passing a hint that slimmer singers are not as good as fat ones. There is prejudice against slim singers in the author's mind...
